Karakulia
Spinning & Weaving
Karakulia in Namibia is a world of hand woven
carpets, rugs and wall hangings. It was established in 1979 with
the aim of encouraging creativity amongst the local talent to produce
collectable pieces and thereby sustainable employment. As the demand
for our hand-woven articles increased, we were able to purchase
more looms, train and employ more
weavers, some disabled, and today we are a closely woven family
of some fifty members.
All designs are individually
created, producing articles of both quality and beauty. Handcrafted
in our Swakopmund workshop, these weavings provide an eye-catching
addition to any home, office or company building. Pure wool from
the world renowned Karakul sheep is synonomous with Namibia. Our
carpets and rugs are flat woven with a cotton warp, fully reversible
and very hard wearing.
