History of Arandis The town of Arandis was originally established by the Rössing
Uranium Mine, to serve as housing for mineworkers in the early seventies.
Still today a large number of Rössing inhabitants are employed
by the mine, but already there is a strong initiative for the development
of alternative industry to create other employment opportunities,
as the Rössing mine has in recent years drastically downscaled
their operations and number of employees due to deflated uranium
prices on the world market. In the light of this, Arandis was the
first town in Namibia to be declared an Export Processing Zone with
the aim to attract industrial investors to the town.
